Gwenna felt strong hands shake her awake and found her mother's form hanging over her. Gwenna opened her mouth to scream, but her mother quickly cupped her hand over her mouth, "Hush now, my child. They'll hear us."
"Mommy," Gwenna cried.
"Shhh, come on," Gwenna's mother motioned. She grabbed her daughter's hand and drug her out of bed and began to quietly stalk around Gwenna's bedroom. Echoes of screams and pounding vibrated off all the walls all around them. Gwenna squeezed her mother's hand tightly and felt deep fear begin to pulse through her.
"Mommy!" Gwenna cried again. She looked up at her mother, who was crying and white as a ghost. Something was happening and Gwenna wanted to know what. "Where's daddy?" Gwenna cried out again.
"He's fighting them to keep us safe. Now hush child!" her mother hissed.
"Fighting who?!" Gwenna screamed.
"Do you want the death of us child? Now shut up!" Her mother scolded. She picked up the four-year-old Gwenna and began to run through the long hallways, trying to stay wary of her surroundings. Everything was deathly quiet now and all Gwenna wanted to do was scream and wake up from this awful dream. However, she did not wake, instead she found herself curled up in her mother's arms as they broke out into the cool night air. A diesel truck hummed close by, but instead of a clear path of safety, a rather large being stood in their way.
"Now, now, what have we here?" the voice rang.
"Leave us alone, we have done no harm," Gwenna's mother cried out.
"Ah, but you have. You are married to the man that cost us many of our clan. Your love is strong for him I assume," the man chuckled.
"My love does run strong for him and it always will!" Gwenna's mother declared. The man's lips curled back in a grotesque smile as his fangs gleamed in the moonlight and his eyes closed to a narrow slit as red flashed through. Both Gwenna and her mother screamed as the man shot toward him.
"Run Gwenna, run!" Her mom screamed. She dropped the girl and hurled herself into the vampyre's waiting arms.
"Awww, true love. It's absolutely delightful," the vampyre chuckled. "You know; I am in love as well. Is that really hard to believe?"
"Impossible, vampyres could never enjoy the wonders of love," Gwenna's mother yelled.
"That is where humans are wrong! I am disgusted by all your ridiculous assumptions! We are not much different than you so-called humans!" the vampyre growled.
"No, we aren't monsters!" Gwenna's mother yelled.
"You have made us seem like monsters, but are we really different than you? All we ask for is a little sip from your blood and we go on our way. However, you have given us no choice and now you feel my fury!" the vampyre yelled. He then grabbed her neck and lowered his fangs onto Gwenna's mother neck. Gwenna watched in horror and tears began to fall down her cheeks.
"LEAVE MOMMY ALONE!" Gwenna screamed. The vampyre stopped drinking for a moment and looked at the little girl. Blood dripped down his lips and neck and his eyes glowed a bright red with thirst.
"Gwenna! Don't worry about me! Run!" her mother pleaded weakly. Her eyes began to roll in the back of her head and her face grew pale as her blood drained from her neck.
"You better do what your mother says, or you will be next," the vampyre growled. Gwenna hissed and began to run away. The vampyre threw the woman at one of the other vampyres closeby that began to prowl closer. "Finish her off!"
He then turned and began to run after Gwenna, closing behind her fairly quickly. He was able to grab her by her night shirt and pulled her close. "Now it's your turn, my dear. I am really sorry about this, but we are not permitted to have any survivors," the vampyre chuckled. Gwenna screamed and tried to kick away. However, all she was able to successively do is cause the vampyre's long nail to sweep down her side, leaving a deep cut. "Your blood smells so sweet and pure. That is what I love about children's blood the most," the vampyre laugh.
He began to lower his head towards the throbbing vein in her neck. "Stop!" a voice shouted suddenly. The vampyre looked up and looked upon a beautiful woman standing a few inches away. Holding her hand tightly was a young boy, horrified by what was taking place.
"Emily! What are you doing here?!" the vampyre yelled.
"Please, stop. She's just an innocent child!" the woman pleaded. The vampyre looked down at Gwenna and dropped her. "Honey, please, let's just go home," she continued.
"I can't leave survivors!" the vampyre growled, while looking back at the pale faced Gwenna. Emily, with the young boy, walked over and softly rubbed his cheek and placed a soft kiss on his waiting lips.
"You have killed the one that you wanted. Is there any reason why there should be any more bloodshed, my dear?" she whispered. The vampyre shook his head, obviously lost in her strong charm. "Well then, please let's go home. Together," Emily continued.
"Yes my love," the vampyre sighed. He then turned back towards the sobbing Gwenna, "Please forget the events that have taken place. This is not really who we are and please understand that."
Gwenna watched weakly as the tall man and the mysterious woman merged into the darkness. Her side burned with pain from large cut that was etched across her side. She felt her eyes begin to close as warm arms wrapped around her and pulled her into safety.
